In UWNI’s 2024–2025 Annual Report, an anonymous Imagination Library parent described how a new book’s arrival became something their son eagerly anticipated. Reading together grew into a monthly family tradition.

Local support helps make the connection
United Way of Northwest Illinois is the local affiliate for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Stephenson, Jo Daviess and Carroll counties. Enrolled children receive a free, age-appropriate book mailed to their home each month from birth until their fifth birthday.
Local individuals, businesses and community partners help sustain the program. Their generosity connects young children with books and gives families another opportunity to read together.
Literacy is one part of UWNI’s work. Community giving also supports local programs addressing youth opportunity, health, financial security and essential needs.
